In lapland the cold can steal your toes and not give them back! I suffer from feet that easily get cold so I have searched high and low for the best solutions. I also spend a great deal nearly every winter day outside walking on difficult terrain (sometimes snow above my waist!) The Neos Navigator 5 Mid is possible one of the best answers on the market. They are light on the feet, have 4mm polyurethane foam insulation and you can buy a 10mm EVO insole which I would recommend.
The upper section of the boot is made from 840 denier polyester durable, and tough it is, mine take a bashing and I have not managed to rip them yet. The Ninja soul with the deep treads help you keep stable in slippery conditions and the easy on off velcro makes them easy to get on and off quickly. Tucked neatly away inside the top of the boot are waterproof extenders which reach up to just below the knees, perfect when you are caught in icy overflow.
Normally you wear these over a pair of sneakers or walking boots, really depends how cold it is and you can really custom how you wear them to suit your environment and preference. What I do sometimes is put an extra insole made from Reindeer hides available from topaz.no then I use a thick boot liner such as workboothavenblog.com/tag/radiantex-liner put on a couple of pairs of socks depending how cold it is, I would wear thiner socks and maybe less lining down to around -20c but when it's 40 below it's full monty! The liner socks I wear are nearly 100 % wool and my main Sami type socks are twice as thick as most pairs of winter socks you will find in European outdoor shops.
Now I never have cold feet, but my system is fairly complicated, alternatively you can just stick a warm pair of hiking boots on inside and thinner socks......Depends.....
